ABOUT US

Who we are

Inner East Social Housing Group Limited (IESHG Ltd.) is a boutique not-for-profit Registered Housing Provider, managing  government-owned, affordable accommodation for single persons on low income under a General leasing agreement with the Office of Housing, Department of Human Services.

Out main aim is to provide safe, secure and affordable high quality social housing to single people experiencing disadvantage by way of low-income, infirmity or age.

Our Principal Purpose is to provide safe and affordable shelter for people experiencing disadvantage by way of low-income, infirmity or age.

Our History

The Inner Eastern Regional Housing Council Incorporated (Housing Council) was formed in 1985, in Box Hill, to provide long term singles accommodation to those most in need. In 1991 the Inner Eastern Regional Housing Council formed the Inner East Rooming Housing Group (IERHG) as a sub-committee of the Housing Council.

The Group was formed in response to the decline in rooming, boarding and apartment house accommodation (both regionally and statewide) and the lack of available and accessible public housing options for single people.

The Housing Council utilised the IERHG as a trading identity to continue the Housing Council's rooming and group housing programs. Therefore, the Housing Council remained an incorporated association up to the recent name change in December 2008.

The Inner East Social Housing Group Inc was formed from this change of incorporated name. In April 2014 the converted its structure to a Company Limited by guarantee at which time the Inner East Social Housing Group Limited was formed

What we do

All IESHG properties will be operated under the General Lease agreement with the Office of Housing, Department of Human Services.  IESHG Ltd currently houses a total of 45 community housing tenants.

The IESHG operates 3 rooming houses, housing a total of 40 tenancies in self contained units with shred laundry facilities.

Disabled facilities are provided in 4 of these units with full wheelchair access.

All tenants must meet the current public housing eligibility guidelines. Rent is determined by DHS’s General Lease and includes a built-in charge to cover the shared costs of providing gas, electricity, cleaning and other services to each house.

Given the difficulties that women have often experienced in gaining access to affordable accommodation, the IESHG strives for an approximately 50/50 gender balance in its rooming house properties.

We also operate three Group Housing Program units, which provide shared housing for single persons on low income, usually with a physical disability. We have 2 x two-bedroom units and 1 x three bedroom units.
